You’ve had your roof replaced, or are thinking about doing so. After selecting your roofing contractor and having the new roof installed, congrats! You’re all done, with nothing more to think about regarding your roof! Right?!? Not quite – your investment (roof) to protect your investment (home) will need some TLC throughout its lifespan. The first step is to schedule a roof inspection.
Like any investment you make in your life, you need to check in and make sure everything is ok! Think of your roof the same way. Proper maintenance and frequent check-ups will help ensure your get the full value from your purchase. There are many factors that are working against your roof’s lifespan. Sun, wind, snow, A/C repair crews are a few of the factors that can shorten the life of your roof. In fact, studies show that a roof that is not regularly maintained will only last about half of its expected life! A regularly scheduled roof inspection will save you money in both the short and long term.
How often should you schedule a roof inspection?
We recommend to have your a roof inspection done twice a year. It’s best to have the inspections done before and after the “extreme” season. Depending on where you live will determine when you should have those inspections completed. Down here in the south, the summer heat is our biggest enemy. Solar UV radiation hitting the top off your roof (which is why it’s so important to have the proper components!) will create high surface temperatures. This can lead to thermal shock when rain falls, leading to failures in your roofing system. That is why we recommend two inspections per year. We suggest having your roof inspected in the early spring, and then once again in the fall.
Who should inspect your roof?
You might feel confident that you can check the roof yourself to see if there are any obvious signs of roof damage. This might give you piece of mind, but it’s best for your investment to let a qualified roofing contractor conduct a complete roof inspection. The most important thing is to make sure you’re choosing a local business when selecting a company.
